Homemade Folding Knife
In this video I complete a knife that I started over a year ago. With many setbacks and problems to solve, a homemade folding knife is quite the learning experience.
Blade steel is O-1 too steel. 5/32 inch thick.
Knife handles are 6061 aluminum 1/8 inch thick.
Pivot is a bicycle chain ring bolt.
Pocket clip is stainless steel.
Screws are 2.5mm X .5 pitch stainless steel.
Button was made from 5/16 inch stainless rod.
Coating is Cerakote in burnt bronze.
Music used is all from UA-cam music library.

How to build a trashcan forge

Version 2 of an ongoing research and experimentation project to explore homemade refractory materials. Perlite was chosen as an insulating aggregate, but it can't hold up on its own, here I coat the particles in aluminum oxide which can take the heat, all glued together with sodium silicate. In this usage, the perlite is used to make an alumina forge lining less dense and more insulating. The p...

I thought I saw sodium silicate cheap enough to avoid having to do this!
I started customizing mine last night and whatever i made got way way to hot and whistled like a whistling pete and the flame is invisble up to 50% . Above 50% power its still hard to see. But in 3 seconds the burner was already too hot to touch and smoking. 30 secongs the stainless tip that is almost 1/4 thick walls was glowing red. After using it for a couple minutes it was getting unsafely hot and started welding the brass fittings to eachother.
Salut c’est possible de le couler entièrement en ciment fondue au lieu du réfractaire et de la couverture ?
Borosilicate glass is not possible. High concentrations of NaOH will etch the glass and destroys it.
Would flower drying silica gel work too?
You can use sodium silicate to seal head gaskets! That’s the main ingredient in any head gasket sealer
Does this work as engine block sealant?
is it true that sodium silicatewater glass can be easily removed with distilled white vinegar???
DOES IT REMAIN CAUSTIC AND HAZARDOUS TO THE SKIN AND EYES?
its sorta like inorganic glycerine!!!
how bad or the fumes for this, i think it would be no good to do!!
Can you help me man? I want to no know if waterglass work's like resin? I want to mix whit wood dust and other dusts like sand, and things like this. I want to know if will harden and will be strong glue. I want o to make musical instruments whit recicled wood dust Thank you for share your recipe ☺️🙏🏾
Short answer is, kind of. It will be better at binding non absorbent particles like sand, rather than wood dust. When compared to resin or wood glue, waterglass will not work as well for those same purposes. I used this waterglass as a high temperature glue or cement to make things that can survive high heat, but it's more difficult to use than resin or other types of glue that would burn at high heat.
CLkindred its been quite a while since youve posted, are you ok?
Be EXTREMELY careful with the lye people.wear PPE!! Keep some vinegar handy. If your hands feel "soapy" thats your skin reacting with it'' IMMEDIATELY RINSE in vinegar water.
22 bucks a gallon from rutland, a refractory stove materials supplier Via amazon. Not sure if its pure but ive got a gallon. Used it to line a melting kiln seemed good. Been a year. That said ill check the label in the morning. And thank you for the tutorial!!
Thx for the help man my dad and I have made thousands of different cakes like 56 shots with great timings
Great job! How has the refractory held up?
what is the recipe he is using for the forge?
The orifice hole looks like maybe 3/64” or a #60 wire bit maybe?
Oop, looks like it’s actually 0.016”, aka a #78 wire bit. Definitely a specialty item, and you may need an extra-fine drill chuck (like a Jacobs #0) to use it.
Good video however, you did not show how the small shell made. Also, you didn't try to use it. Hope you have video show that.

Or you could just splice together two valved hoses. Done. BTW... you should have used a much finer hacksaw blade on that tubing.
Nice! I used this procedure to make sodium silicates as geopolymer reagent. I mean the dessicant is made from waterglass and with this we make it back into waterglass.
Great idea 💡 👍 👏
Bro that propane torch is badass
So I've been thinking of making one of these coffee can forges and have seen a few people say that after about 10 or so uses, the plaster of paris and sand mixture starts to crack. How has yours held up with the addition or pearlite?
What kind of fuel did you put in it? Alcohol or gasoline?
Is it better to seal the back or have 2 openings? Does it matter in terms of the heat? I'm guessing it's hotter to seal one side.
Nice shell man your video has helped me i was struggling to get my caps to stay in and to get my shell casing to burst now i know to plete the paper thanks.
Thanks for sharing a great video !!
Beautiful thing.
Great video!
Nice. I wish my Optimus would run on alcohol, but I guess gas needs twice as much oxygen as alcohol. Also, I wonder if there is a basic difference between vapor pressure of the fuels? Coleman fuel has a vapor pressure at 100C of about 4 kPa, and I think ethanol is about 200 P, or 50 times that, unless my units are messed up. On your next iteration, can you mention what diameter nozzle you made, and how big the 3 air holes in the burner are? Any ideas for pot stands?
Excellent video but I have one question when you press the screen and strainer into the tube how do you keep it secure in place without it coming back out or going down in further?
Sodium silicate was once very common in use around the farm, home and industry, now, I seldom see it!
do u have a video on making this stove? what temperatur range r we in just b4 cutting off heat?
thanks
Why did the first tank say non refillable? Are they designed for single use?
Thats awesome thanks for sharing
That doesn’t seem to hard to make.
That's very dang cool !
Could this be used as a forge? Leaving the back out for control? Would I need to line with satanite? Thanks. Great video as usual.
How long does this refractory last?as good as wool I'm about to make one and looking for the right mixture. Yours looks impressive. Best narration mate. Easy to follow. Top marks!
So i see this video has been around for some time. I'd like to see how your blade is holding up. ive had the same knife as you for maybe 6 years,. And a Tanto-serrated blur (just like the one you "fixed") for many more years beforehand. Thats awesome what you did. Even though my current kershaw blur is maintained and working just fine, I'm partial to wanting the S30V version or even the ELMAX. What do you think of those steels? Belated congrats of your success making that blade.
How do you store it? To cute is it necessary UV light?
Very clever. Thank you!
